Volunteers Under 18
VGSR encourages everyone to consider volunteering. As VGSR does not have a shelter or facility, support from our younger volunteers is greatly appreciated at adoption and fundraising events.
We do have a minimum age. To volunteer with VGSR, you be at least 14 years old. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by and supervised by a parent at all times. Volunteers who are 16 and older may participate without parental supervision. Volunteers must be 18 to handle dogs.
For adoption events, we love having help to:
- Assist with photos of our dogs
- Help clean up any dog messes that may occur
- Place 'Adopt Me' bandannas on the foster dogs
- Fill water bowls and help to keep the floor dry if inside
- Brush dogs if foster parents say it is okay and bag up the fur
- Help keep young puppies in the carts that can't be on the floor or ground yet
- Greet folks and help introduce them to the foster dogs; get folks interacting and pull them in
- Help man the table and assist in answering questions or introduce guests to a volunteer that can assist
- Help keep an eye on our surroundings and look for possible problems (i.e. give a "cat" alert, when someone walks near with a cat - yes folks bring their cats to the store too or baby stroller coming through alert and one alert we gave out recently was a "little white dog" alert!).
For fundraising events such as our race and golf tournament, we can always use help to:
- Assist with set up
- Assist with photos of our dogs
- Greet guests and direct them to registration
- Place 'Adopt Me' bandannas on the foster dogs
- Assist with registration, handing out registration packets and gift bags
