Hi! I’m Lela and I am looking for somebody to curl up next to so I can bury my head in their lap. Did I mention how much I loveeeeeee attention? I have spent 9 years as an outside dog, but you’d never know it by looking at me. I am so pretty and full of energy. I love to take walks and play with tennis balls or a game of tug with a rope toy. I keep trying to play with my foster brother and sister, but they don’t want to play with me right now. They don’t welcome new house guests, so my foster mom is the only one I can get to play. I did meet a tiny white dog in the store and we danced around with each other. Big or small, I don’t care – I just want somebody to be my friend. Since the other dogs won’t be my friend, we like to go on lots of walks as a pack. Mom says this well help the other dogs accept me sooner. I walk beautifully on the leash, right by your side. I do like to stop and smell and I am intrigued by the neighboring cats and squirrels and want to chase them.

Are you learning how perfect I am yet? Even though I spent most of my time outdoors, I know that potty is for the outside only. I am a wonderful house guest. If we aren’t playing, I’m curled up at your feet, brushing against you so that you remember I’m here. I’ve spent a lifetime yearning for affection and now that I’ve found it, I fully indulge. My mom has me sleeping in a crate next to her side of the bed. She says it’s for my own safety, so I press my body up against her side so she can pet me as we fall asleep. Even though I would rather be laying with the rest of the pack, I do well in my crate and stay quiet throughout the night.

I was really confused when I lost the only family I’d known and I can be kind of shy, but I love to meet new people who pay attention to me. Everyone tells me how pretty I am and they ask if I’m just “a young one”. You should see their faces when my mom tells them that I am nine years old… I think she’s being misinformed. I look and act like a 5 year old. You should see me bouncing around in the yard chasing a tennis ball. I’m not a seasoned pro, but I have fun learning what this play is all about.

Now that you’ve heard the good, there is something I have to tell you. There is a growth in between my toes that we found out has cancerous cells. We are doing further testing on it, but there is a good chance we caught this in time and we can remove it and make me all better again. They doctor said I may lose two toes in the process, but that won’t make me any less beautiful. I hope that won’t dissuade you from wanting to welcome me into your life, because I promise you I will bring you so much love and laughter – you won’t regret it. We will know more soon, but please email my foster mommy at jennifer.quesenberry@gmail.com and let her know if you want to get to know me a little better. I know that 9 may sound old, but I assure you- I am so young at heart! My foster mom says I’d make a really nice addition to your family if you just gave me a chance.
