Benny (AKA Nitro) has been in foster care for over 6 months now. He is a very special dog, due to his being raised outside as a stray his whole life. He has made some strides but is still very much the same as he came into foster care. He is still shy and timid. Outside of the home, he will not interact with anyone. He hates to leave the house, and he still refuses to walk on a leash. He limits his time with humans, though he has bonded with me and allows me to pet him on his terms. If I catch him off guard, he runs. He does not show aggression, just extreme fear. He will approach me for attention a couple times a day but limits interaction with other humans. However, Benny loves the other dogs and prefers to spend his time in a pack. He is basically house trained. However, if not crated when you are away from home, he will get himself into whatever mischief he can find. He has to have other dogs in the home, but he is energetic and wants to play, play, play, which can be irritating to some dogs. 

He should not be around small children, as he is scared of them and does growl at them. He is fine with older children who respect his boundaries. 

He growls at my Guinea pigs all the time and keeps all the crickets and bugs out of the house. This means he does have a prey drive and probably would not do well around cats. 

I am not sure that he is going to change his personality much more. Only time will tell. Benny needs an adopter who can accept him for who he is -- which is a true rescue dog -- and accept and love him unconditionally. His adopter must provide him a pack to belong to or at least another dog in the home.
