Cal is a handsome, good-natured 5 year-old, approximately 75 lb., neutered, male, white German Shepherd. He was found in Calvert County, MD, without a collar or tags. He has fully recovered from heartworm disease and is enjoying life as a much loved foster dog in downtown DC with his housemate Angel. Cal is a very sweet, loving, playful dog who is extremely happy to be living in a safe environment where he is valued and cared for. He returns the love 1000-fold every day and is definitely all heart. He is a playful, almost puppy-like dog with a great appetite for life (as well as food and treats). He is extremely devoted to his human and while plays well with most other dogs, he has a tendency towards aggressiveness on the leash however. I have no doubt that after a short period of socialization with other dogs on leashes, he would be fine. I think that he is really more eager to play than to be aggressive. He and his foster sister get along famously. Cal is wonderful and very gentle with children. He would not be immediately good with cats as they seem to pique his prey instinct. Cal is house-trained and has outstanding house manners. He does not appreciate being crated and there is no-reason that he needs to be crated. While he knows some basic commands, he could use a bit more training. He is a very active dog who loves to play and explore the wonders of urban life. He would also thrive in a suburban or country environment. He wants everyone he meets to be his friend and is truly deserving of a loving forever home. Please find room in your heart and in your home for this amazing boy.
Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security. The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed. |
