Dash is such a diamond in the rough! He has already come a long way, but continued training is a must for this cutie pie. Dash is now house trained, crate trained and walks fairly well on a leash. He knows Sit, Down and Come and is learning Leave It and Stay. Introductions with other dogs need to be slow and supervised. He is very toy and treat motivated, but can become territorial with our resident dog over toys. Small children, small dogs and cats are a “no” due to his high prey drive and constant mouthing of everything in reach, but he has done great with every adult he has met so far. Dash is very eager to please, but frequently forgets his manners. With continued training (positive reinforcement, redirection), patience and love he will turn into the great dog he is meant to be. Dash’s previous owners loved him and took good care of him, but he was just a bit too much for them. We have only fostered him for a week, and he is working on many new things in a short period of time (Being an inside dog! House training! Crate training! Obedience training! Walking on a leash! Getting along with the resident dog! And most importantly, learning that mouthing everything and everybody, and getting too spun up is not necessary to communicate with us). Dash is currently not good with children, other dogs or cats (due to his size and behavior), but this will probably change in the coming weeks as he settles in and continues his training. Please stay tuned for updates.
