6/13/18  Guten tag! My name is Fiona and I’m a retired Sheriff’s K-9 officer. I was trained in drug detection and know both German and English commands. Unfortunately no one gave Mom a list. So far the only command she has mastered is Sit. And that is in English.

I was retired due to hip dysplasia. I was at the vet’s the other day and was told that I’m not displaying many signs and do not seem to be in pain. I concur. So for now, I don’t need to be treated with vet meds for the dysplasia. I will be starting joint supplements in a few weeks.

Unfortunately my retirement home wasn’t the best. I guess my new owners considered me a third wheel since they already had two dogs in the home. I was relegated to an outdoor pen surrounded in a yard full of trash and machine parts. Mom says I was in pretty bad shape when I got to her house and boy did I stink! I did get a pretty good bath but the Jacuzzi will never be the same! Mom says I still need another bath. I don’t know what this is but she says I’m gonna get a Chi treatment. Then I’ll smell really good!

Mom doesn’t know what my diet consisted of or how often I was fed. She says I’ll look pretty good once I pack on 10 lbs. I’m working really hard on that part! Because of my poor diet, I’m pretty much hungry all the time so I taught myself to counter-surf. Self-starter, huh? Along with my poor diet came some really nasty diarrhea and worms. I’m currently on deworming meds and may need a second round. It’s been about 10-12 days and my diarrhea is starting to shape up. Pun intended! It is still soft but now has form. Because my diarrhea was so bad I’ve been on two additional meds plus a prescription dog food and will probably be on them for another week or so.

Now that my tummy is doing a little better I want to play. I try and play with my foster brother and sister but Mom calls my foster brother her cranky old man so I leave him alone for the most part. Although he did give me tips on gardening and how to play with big rocks. My foster sister is so-so. She seems to be better about playing outside than inside. What an old stick-in-the-mud!

Ok, Mom says I have to come clean about my not so nice side. While I let Mom take my food and toys away, I get really cranky if my foster brother and sister try. Plus, sometimes I try and take their toy away and then they get cranky. However, I do listen to Mom when she tells me no. I’m going to get fur ball tested to see how I do with cats. Mom’s hoping it doesn’t turn into a fur flyin’ test. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Everyone I’ve met can’t believe how sweet and loving I am considering my background. I was so good during my bath (I only shook once); I kept giving Mom kisses while she was trimming my nails; and, everyone loved me at the vets.
