9/16/19  Exciting news!

Riva is healthy and happy! Her biopsies showed no cancer but the vet determined that it would be best for the cysts to be removed.  They discovered that some stitches from a previous procedure had not dissolved and were slowing down her healing. Once those were removed she healed well.  After a month of having a drain, a donut around her neck and having to be still…she was a happy, happy girl when the doctor gave us the all clear! She loves to go for long walks.  She’s an amazing tracker and we play hide and seek with her in the house. She’s doing well with fetch too although she’s still working on the “release” command. When we’re done playing fetch if she’s still inclined to play she throws her ball in the air, waits for it to bounce and runs to retrieve it.  She does an amazing downward facing dog on the stairs and of course she basks in the attention she commands with her big paws. Riva has a big bark. She isn’t overly vocal she just wants you to know that the UPS guy is approaching the porch. She’s great with our 11 year old male GSD. If you want a smart, loyal, playful dog who is house trained and leash trained Riva’s the dog for you!

3/2/19 Update on Riva a 6 ½ year old German shepherd.  She’s Rubenesque with unique large paws who attracts the attention of everyone when we are on our walks.  She’s a pretty girl and she basks in all the attention.  She’s happy and playful which belies her current health challenge.  She’s been diagnosed with cancer.  Riva came to VGSR with cysts and some open wounds.  While being treated for a double ear infection and the cysts the vet came across the cancerous growths.  We’ve got some medical procedures scheduled that will give us a better idea of prognosis and treatment.  In the meantime this charmer continues to act as spotter of deer, bunnies and other backyard visitors for our senior GSD.  They are quite a team.  If you’d like more information on Riva you can contact her fosters at 2ndchancegsd@gmail.com

2/16/19  This is Riva and she is a wonderful, happy, playful, loving and obedient 6 year old spayed female who weighs 81 pounds. She is a very stocky build and strong German Shepherd. She LOVES toys especially ones that squeak and lives to play fetch. Her fetch is to throw it up so she can catch it. She gets along with dogs very well, great with kids. Loves everyone she meets. She loves to sit beside you or on your lap.

She's house trained, crate trained and does pretty good on the leash too. She is just a big love bug.
