Meet Seamus. He is a young pup with a plush coat and the free spirit, swagger, and happy-go-lucky disposition of an Irishman. He walks a little like John Wayne, which almost led to his name being Pilgrim, but Seamus seemed to suit him better, and he likes it. Seamus came into the Fairfax County shelter not far from where he is now being fostered on Columbus Day. He was almost euthanized, but VGSR saved him at the last moment.
Seamus is a very sweet dog. He took to his new home immediately, and has hardly left his foster’s side since he came home. He likes giving kisses and playing. He has a healthy appetite and seems confident aside from being spooked by the grooming brush. He is a typical puppy with few leash manners and relatively unaware of commands, but he appears to be food and praise motivated and should take to training well with a dedicated family.
Although he does not look it due to his pretty plush coat, Seamus is underweight and is in rough shape from his time on the street. He was recently neutered and is being treated for whipworm and hookworm, intestinal parasites common among stray dogs. He also is recovering from fleas.
Seamus is not good with all dogs, but we are working on socializing him more.
