Biscuit is an odd name for such a large and imposing dog, but that's what it is. He's said to be six years old. He had been adopted out from a county shelter a year ago and was returned when his family moved. His former family had children and said he was good with kids, but I haven't seen him around children. They also said that he loves car rides and toys. He's definitely well socialized and housetrained, which is something I rarely say about a dog. He doesn't need a crate indoors. He's good with other dogs. No cats. He's got a rather menacing look and may be part Akita, it's hard to say. He's got a BIG head, big feet, big all the way around, but he is very sweet and craves attention. He will scratch up a door if you try to shut him up someplace when you are still around, but I've left him home alone for hours with free run and he's been just fine. He's fine at night too, until he knows you are awake, then he wants to be with you. He's a good snuggler and he's very warm. He's a good dog, he needs a good home. The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
