Raylie came to us from a shelter in North Carolina not much is known about him other than he was an owner surrender.
Raylie is house and crate trained. He loves his crate at night and has even put himself to bed in his crate several times already.
He knows basic commands; sit, stay, down, come and he is a pretty good listener. We are currently working on “Drop” to release toys. We have assigned him a “place” in the living room which he is still learning, but once put there, he will stay until released. He will sit and stay patiently while we prepare his food and will wait until he is told its ok to eat, but true to the breed he can be stubborn sometimes.
Raylie is also pretty well-mannered. On rare occasions he will jump up but is easily corrected. He will gently take treats also. Raylie can occasionally get mouthy when playing hard with him, but he takes correction well and calms easily.
He walks well on a leash, occasionally tries to pull, but is easily corrected. He has only passing interest in people and dogs we see on walks and does not seem to have a high prey drive.
Raylie loves his chew toys and loves playing fetch and tug of war. I would say he is a medium energy dog. He needs his moderate walks/exercise but doesn’t need miles and miles or hours. During down time he is happy to play with you if you want but is just as content to lazily nap the afternoon away. We think he would do well with a fenced in yard, but it is not a requirement.
Raylie is pretty indifferent with other dogs. We were told he did well at the shelter. Not sure about cats.
Raylie is not body sensitive in any way. He will let you touch his paws, lips, teeth/mouth, ears (inside and out), tail, and belly. He is indifferent to any of these touches.
We also think that Raylie may not have had a lot of real-world experiences, things like traffic/school buses, garage door opener, treadmill, etc. These were a bit perplexing and a little scary for him at first but with exposure and desensitization he has come a long way. He is a bit shy when he first meets new people. He has never shown aggression just a reluctance to engage. Once he realizes that you are okay, he will become fast friends with you. For this reason, it is probably best that he goes to a non-chaotic home (at least to start with). We think he could handle some chaos but would have to start slow and be comfortable with his surrounding as more variables were introduced. Raylie can get a little whiney in the beginning of a car ride but settles in quickly.
Now that he is comfortable with us, he is the typical Velcro-dog wanting to be nearby all
of the time. He really is a good dog and will seemingly be a very loyal, loving, playful
companion for the right person/family.
