8/14/18 This will introduce Scout, a 4 year old, small-frame female who has a lot of energy.  She grew up in an apartment in Arlington and when her owner was deployed, she came to live in the “countryside” of Ashburn.  She is used to apartment and townhouse living, but really enjoys being outside.  She would  make a great hiking buddy for someone who enjoys the great outdoors.  She is definitely NOT a couch potato!  She absolutely loves catching and chasing tennis balls and is so adept any MLB team would benefit from her prowess.  Throw some tennis balls for her and she’ll love you forever!

            Scout is a bit shy and cautious with strangers—human and canine.  But if introductions are taken calmly and slowly, her curiosity usually wins out and she’ll make friends, especially if Milk Bones or Pupperoni are offered.  She is on constant alert and startles easily, especially when a noisy truck rolls by.  She gets easily excited so we are working on teaching her that being calm gets rewarded.  Scout is also a very curious little girl and will jump up to see what’s happening on the counters.  She has never taken anything off and seems content to chew on her bones and toys, and she takes her treats very gently.  She knows the basic commands, sit, down, stay, off, focus, etc., but that all goes out the window when she’s playing with tennis balls. 

            Scout will also push the boundaries, so strong leadership would be recommended for her.  She is quick to learn, and in the 6 weeks that Scout has been here, she has adjusted very well to our routine and living with two small dogs.  I think Scout would make a very loyal and dedicated member of any family who takes the time to exercise her, reward her, and provide the leadership she looks for.  She will take a little effort, but it will be so worthwhile because you will be rewarded with a very devoted canine companion.
