German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult
Ellie is a lively 6 year old black and tan girl with a sweet disposition. She was very attached to her former owner who passed away, so she is ready to settle down with a new family. When we first met her, she was instantly friendly and clearly has been well cared for and remarkably well-adjusted after all she has been through. We allow her to roam freely in the house without any accidents or damage. While she is quite energetic, she also can relax and just hang out. She loves to take walks and heels with occasional light correction, and understands basic commands. She shows interest in squirrels, cats, etc., but has not pulled hard on the leash to chase them. It is unclear how she will do with cats or small dogs in her own house. She has shown no aggression towards dogs while walking. With our rather insecure male shepherd who wants to be an only dog, she tends to get into his space too often for his taste. When he corrects her, she quickly backs off with a bark or two. She loves tennis balls, but does not show as much interest in other toys. Her family says she is fine with children, and she accepts petting from children graciously while on walks. Ellie is slender and graceful, weighing about 55 pounds, and does not seem to be highly food or treat motivated. Alert and curious, she has a great watch dog bark, but does not bark without a reason. A situation in which she is the only-dog would be best for Ellie, although living with another dog that enjoys canine company would probably work, too. She should fit into a new home easily and be a wonderful companion. She certainly has won us over in just a few days.
