Update 8/28/17   Hi. Athena here. I wanted to update my bio since I'm feeling and looking so much better since coming to the rescue. I'm on joint meds and prescription medication for allergies and I move better and don't itch anymore! I've lost a lot of weight (though my foster mom says I still need to lose a little more). I do have severe spondylosis but with weight loss and the meds I am doing well. My foster mom says I'm probably shouldn't go to the dog park or jump in the air for a toy as I could get hurt, but I can go for short walks and investigate my yard. I'm approximately 7 years old so I don't need to exercise like some of those young pups anyway. I do like to visit other dogs and though I sometimes get so excited when I see my doggie friends I pull and bark (foster mom is working on that) I am always friendly and appropriate when I catch up with my friends.  I have 3 foster dog siblings and I like to play with them, but sometimes I do try to eat my foster dog brother's food (I'm on this silly diet). I can be a little possessive of toys and food, but when my foster mom tells me to behave, I do. Now that I've been here for awhile I have a few jobs - keeping squirrels away from the bird feeders, shredding paper, and warming my foster mom's feet. I'm good at them and love making my foster parents happy. They say I'm a very good girl and a great companion. I'm very good with the grandkids, too, but as I have to be a little careful of my back, prefer no children in the home, except visitors. Email my foster mom if you want to meet me.

Update 5/31/17     Do you like visiting wineries and enjoying sunsets while sipping a beverage, or eating at a dog-friendly cafe? Want to meet more people in your neighborhood while you take a leisurely stroll? Athena is your girl.   She is outgoing and friendly, and loves dogs of all sizes. When we go on short walks, she likes to meet up with other pups out for strolls, and she loves car rides.  Athena gets along with cats, but when she feels mischievous, she likes to make them run.

Athena is most likely 6 or 7 years of age and has spondylosis in her back and some arthritis in her hips. If you are looking for an active hiking or running partner, Athena is not for you, but with joint supplements and weight loss (she needs to lose at least 10 pounds), Athena will enjoy time in the backyard, short walks, and the aforementioned winery jaunts.

Due to her back and joint issues, I would like to see her adopted by someone with few or no stairs in the house. She likes children, but because of her limited activity, I would prefer no children in the home. I will consider older, considerate children, and visiting children are fine. Her skin is healing well from her flea allergies and her hair is growing back nicely. She does get a runny nose when the pollen is high, so I currently have her on an over-the-counter allergy pill. She loves toys, but she can only have Kongs, Nylabones, and other hard toys, as she likes to eat toy stuffing and those supposedly-indestructible soft ones do not withstand her attention.

Athena is a very sweet girl who will make a great comp anion for her lucky owner.

5/5/17   Hi, I’m Miss Athena and my foster mom says I’m very sweet and have the prettiest face. I am good with other dogs, and I was raised with cats. I like cats, but sometimes I get excited and like to see them run. I am an obedient girl and stop when my foster mom reminds me to.  I am a velcro pup who always keeps an eye on my foster mom, and likes to hang out with her and the other dogs. When my foster dad comes home, I get very excited to see him, and I wag my tail happily. I like rides in the car. I have a flea allergy that wasn’t treated and it itched so much I lost hair on my legs and tail. I am sore there, but I am feeling much better with medication and lots of TLC. I’m a little big in the caboose and need to lose 10-15 pounds, but since I like to take walks and play I should lose it soon. I’ll be available in about a month.  My foster mom says I am worth the wait!  Approved adopters may contact gsdfostermom@comcast.net
